Pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court of India Women’s Cell has been set up at M.P.Shah College, Surendranagar to uphold the dignity of women at work & female students at college.
To facilitate a gender-sensitive and congenial working or studying environment at M.P.Shah College, Surendranagar so that women at work place or students at study place are not subjected to gender specific discrimination or sexual harassment.
Any unwelcome sexually determined behaviour (physical, verbal or any other form) which violates a women’s dignity and interferes with her ability to operate freely at work. Harassment would also include gender based discriminatory behaviour.
The person concerned can personally approach/ telephone/ write to the convener of the cell. The name of the complainant will be kept CONFIDENTIAL. “Each such incident (of harassment) results in violation of the fundamental rights of ‘gender equality’ and the ‘right to life and liberty’. It is a clear violation of the rights under Articles 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution. One of the logical consequences of such an incident is also the violation of the victims fundamental right under Article 19 (1)(g) ‘to practice any profession or to carry out any occupation, trade or business’. Such violations, therefore, attract remedy under article 32 of the enforcement of these fundamental rights of women”. The Role of the Women’s Cell • To ensure that appropriate action is taken against the offender • To ensure that victims and witnesses are not victimized or discriminated because of their complaint. To take proactive measures towards sensitization of The M. P. Shah College, Surendranagar Community on gender issues so that M. P. Shah Arts and Science College; Surendranagar is an excellent work place and study place for all.
